Small Group Training (PrK-College)

We have found that technical training can be instrumental in taking each player's hockey to a new level.   All sessions are on our covered astro turf in my backyard in Pennington NJ (heated in the winter).  We focus on fundamentals of the game inspired by the trends from international hockey.  Small groups allow us to customize the training to the specific level and developmental age of the group.  This allows us to maximize the potential of each player!  The fundamentals of hockey are the most important piece of the game and provide a platform to play the game with vision, speed and success! We use video and demonstration of each skill executed correctly. We find ways to creatively teach each skill of the game, then design small games to practice these skills under pressure.

There are three seasons to ensure players can pursue other passions and sports as well. If you are interested in signing up, you’ll need to email Melisa and she will do her best to place you in the correct developmental age group. To maximize potential development it is important to be with other players who are at a similar level and developmental age.

Character & LeadHERship

Character and leadership development is a part of EVERY training program we run at EVERY level.  When we focus on maximizing each individual and finding their strengths we can bring one's best self to the team environment and  apply what we're learning to our life outside of field hockey!  Please see examples below.

Values and Goal Setting: This concept feels like something we should introduce at the high school age, but even young kids thrive when they have a goal they believe in and want to reach.  We are going to explore how to connect our values to our goals in hockey, school and life.

Leadership and Finding YOUR Strength: Every one of these girls has multiple strengths and distinct leadership skills.  Those strengths can be masked by insecurities or by the desire to be liked or to fit in.  Social media makes this even more challenging.  My goal is to make sure these girls understand that they each possess unique strengths that are important to the team and we encourage them to use these unique strengths intentionally in the team environment.  THIS Is leadership; the ability to recognize one’s own strengths, to assess the needs of the team and apply yourself in a way that leads to team success.  As you can imagine, many of them place the most value on the most communicative or talented player.  We all know that leadership comes in many forms, one not being more important than another.  In this session, we will discuss different types of leadership skills (listening, self-awareness, selflessness, empathy, creativity, patience, inclusivity, etc..)  and see how the players identify with these different styles.  No one person possesses all of these skills which is why we need a team of players committed to leading in their own way and valuing what each other brings to the team environment!
