We believe an international experience holds the potential for a deep impact for all the people involved.
We are fortunate and lucky enough to live in a wealthy, industrialized nation where many of us take our freedom for granted. Despite our own troubles at home, globally, people face extreme hardship in ways many of us can never imagine. At Zag, we feel a great responsibility to build international bridges, facilitate responsible give back opportunities, and provide insight into the lives of others for the teams that travel with us.
We are truly passionate about serving others. However, it is important to us that we give back in ways that are effective, responsible, and promote self-determination among the people we serve.
Regardless of the country we visit, there is always an opportunity. An opportunity to open ourselves and learn about other's experiences.
This passion and commitment has been a part of our fabric since Zag's inception. We are one of the only organizations to promote service and engagement as an important component of an international tour. We have found service activities make a profound impact on both the traveling team and the natives of the country.
In combination with the other fantastic components of a tour, donating time as a team can create an experience which strengthens the person, the team, and the world at large.
Zag's most recent initiative is to encourage international excursions and activities that promote social, economic, and political well-being in the countries we visit.
Some of these activities include:
- Guided city tours by companies who employ and train individuals struggling with homelessness.
- These tours provide a unique social perspective that cannot be found on a typical tourist-oriented tour!
- Challenging perceptions by dining in delicious restaurants that are employed by rehabilitating prisoners. These restaurants work with ex-offenders and offer training, employment, and mentoring to help reduce recidivism.
- Township Tours led by SAVE, a nonprofit organization that Zag collaborates with in South Africa.
